STARRING
The Distance from Here was developed with my students at the School of Visual Arts and first presented in the intimacy of my classroom. After seeing our work, actor and filmmaker Tom Noonan invited us to remount the piece at his theatre, the Paradise Factory on East 4th Street.
The staging embraced a stripped-down, cinematic rawness: a single live video feed operated by one of the student-actors, capturing the performance in real time. This minimalist apparatus created an atmosphere of stark immediacy and emotional proximity, allowing the piece to unfold with a quiet intensity that blurred theatre and film.
